Chief of Staff to the Founder & Managing Partner

Santa Monica, CA
Full Time
Mid Level
About Clocktower
Clocktower is an alternative asset management and advisory firm based in Santa Monica, with a global presence, including an office in Shanghai. In public markets, we seed macro-oriented hedge fund managers and manage an Asian equity platform. In private markets, we invest in fintech and Latin American startups. Several times a year we host global conferences bringing together our clients and partners, including sovereign wealth funds, tech founders, hedge fund managers, and successful individuals in creative niches. Clocktower’s edge is our network.

The opportunity
This is a rare seat. You will work directly with the Managing Partner on the work that defines the firm: building investor relationships, supporting capital formation, and helping execute across every initiative that matters along the way.

In practice, that means you’ll be in the room for conversations with some of the world’s most sophisticated allocators, including sovereign wealth funds, pensions, endowments, and family offices. You'll help shape how those relationships are built and sustained over time, including the global events and roadshows that are central to Clocktower's reach and impact. Over time you’ll come to understand how Clocktower thinks, what we’re building, and why the right people want to be part of it.

And as you earn trust, the role expands. You will help the Managing Partner think through priorities and act on them across the platform, while taking on increasing ownership of the projects and relationships that shape the firm’s trajectory.

Who this role will suit
  • 3 to 7 years of experience in alternative asset management, banking, consulting, or another high-performance environment; exposure to investor relations or capital formation is a plus.
  • Familiarity with the institutional LP landscape: sovereigns, pensions, endowments, family offices, FoFs, and consultants.
  • Relationship-oriented and at ease in a visible role, equally comfortable internally and with the firm's most important external relationships.
  • Communicates clearly and ahead of the curve, surfacing issues early and keeping the right people informed before being prompted.
  • Operationally minded, with the instinct to build systems that create order. CRM fluency is expected, and having built one is a plus.
  • Comfort with a high volume of moving pieces, where nothing goes dark without a reason.
  • Willing to own the unglamorous tasks when they're what the moment calls for, with a consistent focus on results.
  • Relentless attention to detail and a high personal bar for quality; takes pride in work that's consistently polished and accurate.
  • Based in or fully committed to Los Angeles.

Backgrounds we would expect to see, though not exclusively, include investor relations or capital formation professionals at hedge fund, PE, or adjacent platforms, people coming out of prime brokerage or capital introduction, strong performers from investment banking or consulting, and aspiring or existing Chiefs of Staff at financial services or investment firms, all looking for a faster track to ownership and impact.

If this sounds like you, we would like to hear from you.

What you’ll get
  • Direct exposure. Proximity to the Managing Partner and the rest of the platform, so you’ll see how a multi-strategy firm runs and play a central role in its operations and growth.
  • Benefits. Generous medical packages, options for vision and dental, 401(k) matching program, flexible vacation, and daily in-office lunches.
  • Our office. Santa Monica, in-person with beautiful ocean views.
