Finance Lead (Controller + FP&A) – Investment Management

Santa Monica, CA
Full Time
Mid Level
Clocktower Group is an alternative asset management and advisory firm based in Santa Monica, California, with a presence in London and Shanghai. Our top-down macro framework and relationship-based investing approach inform our strategies and drive the way we do business. In public markets, we seed macro-oriented hedge fund managers and manage an Asian equity platform. In private markets, we invest in early stage fintech and climate disrupters. We also provide global macro research, advisory services, and host events all over the world.

The Role: We are hiring a hands-on Finance Lead (Controller + FP&A) who will be a direct resource to firm leadership, reporting to the COO. You’ll own the firm’s accounting and financial reporting outcomes, bring structure and visibility to planning, and continuously improve how the function runs using modern tools and automation.

Team & support: This role comes with strong hands-on support from two other team-members for day-to-day processing and operational workflows. You’ll own accuracy, deadlines, and outcomes, while focusing your time on higher-value work: month-end close leadership, management reporting, forecasting, and process improvement.

What you’ll do:
  • Own the FP&A. Build-out and maintain financial forecasts for revenue and cost centers and compile into a comprehensive budget to drive business decisions.
  • Oversee Accounting Operations. Oversee the core accounting processes, including AR/AP, payroll, and GL, with strong controls and documentation.
  • Reporting. Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting materials for senior management; manage internal requests and recurring deliverables with clear ownership and deadlines.
  • Systems and automation. Own and optimize the firm finance tech stack. Improve workflows and data availability/quality, reduce manual steps, and implement AI and automation where it can make meaningful improvements.
  • Tax coordination. Drive the firm and GP tax processes, liaising with and reviewing tax filings prepared by a Big 4 provider. You will manage inputs, timelines, and follow-ups to keep the process smooth, accurate and on schedule.
  • Org planning. Work with senior management on longer-term organization planning. Bring structure, visibility, and practical recommendations.

Who we’re looking for:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related business field. CPA preferred.
  • 6-8+ years of accounting and tax experience within financial services, investment management, audit, or professional services organization.
  • Experience in private equity or venture capital preferred.
  • This role must be onsite 3-4 days per week in our Santa Monica office.
  • QuickBooks Online experience highly preferred. Strong Excel skills required.
  • Comfort operating at both a strategic and hands-on level in a growing organization.
  • Detailed and highly tech-savvy with experience owning and improving workflows across tools/software.
What you’ll get:
  • All the resources you’ll need to learn and grow.
  • Independence to run with your ideas.
  • Joining an elite team that works with some of the most sophisticated investors and entrepreneurs in the world.
  • World-class benefit programs, including options for health, dental, vision, disability, life insurance, 401K plan (with matching), generous vacation, and sick leave.
  • Delicious, daily lunches and snacks.
  • Beautiful office space with amazing ocean views.
